Bonds are accepted at the jail 24/7, 365 days a year, EXCEPT weekdays 8:30am–4:30pm when cash bonds must be posted at the court of jurisdiction (3rd Circuit or 36th District Court). Accepted: cash in $20+ denominations, cashier’s/certified checks payable to the Sheriff of Wayne County, and Visa/Mastercard/Discover/Amex (8% processing fee). VISITATION
All social visits at the Wayne County jail are by video, not in person — one free 30-minute video visit per week for visitors 17+, scheduled through the GettingOut/ViaPath system; a public video-visitation suite is on the 1st floor of the Criminal Justice Center Administration Building (weekdays 8:00am–5:00pm).
WHAT TO BRING
Personal visitors must present valid government-issued photo ID at check-in; attorneys must also show a valid bar card. To post a bond in person you must be 18 or older. Displaying photos, literature, or nudity during a video visit results in cancellation.
DIRECTIONS
Adult detention moved in fall 2024 from the old Jail I at 570 Clinton St (Greektown, now vacated) to the new Wayne County Criminal Justice Center at 5301 Russell St, Detroit, MI 48211, between E. Warren Ave and E. Ferry St off the I-75 service drive (Eastern Market/North End). Free visitor parking is in county Lot C (5300 Russell St) and Lot B (5560 Rivard St).
